Dance Theatre South (DTS) is a regional nonprofit ballet company dedicated to excellence in dance education, performance, and community engagement. Founded in 2001 by Artistic Director Leslie Hodges and co-founder Joseph Saponaro, DTS enriches Mitchell County and surrounding communities by creating meaningful artistic opportunities for young dancers and audiences alike.
Each season begins with summer auditions, welcoming dancers into a full year of artistic growth and performance. DTS presents one full-length ballet annually, drawing from a diverse repertoire that has included Peter Pan, The Nutcracker, Coppélia, Alice in Wonderland, The Snow Queen, Snow White, and The Little Mermaid. In addition to mainstage productions, DTS dancers perform at community venues throughout the region, expanding access to high-quality ballet.
Our Mission
Dance Theatre South is committed to advancing excellence in dance education by providing exceptional training and meaningful performance opportunities that enrich both dancers and the community. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Leslie Hodges and Ballet Mistress Sarah Eubanks, DTS offers professional-level instruction in a supportive, disciplined environment that nurtures artistic, technical, and creative growth. Through this work, DTS strengthens the cultural life of our region and inspires the next generation of artists and arts supporters.
Community outreach is central to the mission of Dance Theatre South. Through school performances and accompanying educational materials, DTS introduces students to the art of ballet, fostering creativity, cultural awareness, and a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts.
